Camp in Kumbh Mela Catches Fire Day Before Start in Prayagraj

A tent was gutted in fire in the Kumbh Mela site in Digambar Akhara at Prayagraj (formerly called Allahabad) in Uttar Pradesh on Monday. No report of any loss of life has been reported.

As per reports, a cylinder blast has led to the fire. A car parked near the tent was also engulfed in the raging fire. Fire personnel immediately reached the spot and doused the uncontrolled flames. Ambulances, too, reached the spot.

The Kumbh Mela has been touted as the biggest piligrimage festival by the UNESCO. The grand congregation begins in Prayagraj from January 15. The Mela is also celebrated in Haridwar, Ujjain and Nasik.

This year, the UP Government has increased the Mela’s arrangement to 3200 acres. The mela has arranged around a thousand bio toilets.

Roads have been widened and puja pandals have been given uplift for the devotees. An adequate number of security personnel have been deployed for smooth conduct of the rituals by the piligrims, as said by CM Yogi Adityanath.
