Centurion: South African opener Stephen Cook and former skipper Hashim Amla have completed their centuries in the fourth Test against England here at Super Sport Park on Friday.
Cook who made his Test debut in this game, is playing like well-established cricketer in international level. He became the sixth South African player and 102nd player in the world to score a century on debut.
After winning the toss, the hosts opted to bat first. They started in a descent way as Moeen Ali sent back Dean Elgar in the 11th over of the day.
But after that, Cook and Amla played sensitively and completed a 202-run stand for the second wicket before Ben Stokes cleaned Amla off. He scored 109 runs before returning to pavilion.
Meanwhile, Cook didn’t loose his patience and completed his maiden Test ton on debut with a double.
However, AB De Villiers who came to join Cook after Amla’s departure, went for a duck as the Proteas lost two big wickets in two consecutive overs.
As per the latest report, South Africa is on 259/3 with Cook and Jean-Paul Duminy are at the crease. Cook is batting on 111 while Duminy is on 8.
