Delhi Police Chargesheets Kanhaiya Kumar and Co in JNU Sedition Case

The Delhi police on Monday has produced chargesheet against Kanhaiya Kumar, Umar Khalid, Anirban Bhattacharya and 7 others in Jawaharlal Nehru University incident on February 9, 2016 in where they were allegedly raising slogan in favour of the Parliament attack mastermind Afzal Guru.

Kanhaiya Kumar, the former Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union (JNUSU) President had raised anti-national slogans and was also arrested that time along with Umar Khalid and Anirban Bhattacharya. Later, all three were released on bail.

The police have filed the composite 1200-page chargesheet before the Patiala House Court in Delhi. Section 124A (sedition), 323 (voluntary causing hurt), 465 (forgery), 471 (using as genuine, forged document), 143 (punishment for unlawful assembly), 149 (unlawful assembly with common object), 147 (rioting) and 120B (criminal conspiracy) are the charges levied.

Reacting to the charge by the Delhi police, Kanhaiya Kumar termed it as politically motivated, “If the news is true that a chargesheet has been filed, I would like to thank police and Modi ji. The filing of chargesheet after three years, ahead of elections, clearly shows it to be politically motivated. I trust the judiciary of my country.”

36 other accused along with CPI leader D Raja’s daughter can be called for possible questioning, says the Delhi Police.
