Dropped CBI Chief Alok Verma Declines to DG Fire, Services Chair; Tenders His Resignation

After being sacked by the government from CBI Chief’s post, Alok Verma refused to helm DG Fire Service, Civil Defence and Home Guards on Friday.

Verma in a letter to the DoPT Secretary Chandramauli C stated, “The selection committee has not provided the undersigned an opportunity to explain the details as recorded by the CVC before arriving at the decision.”

“Natural justice was scuttled and the entire process was turned upside down in ensuring that the undersigned is removed from the post of the Director CBI.”

After being reinstated by the Supreme Court to take helm of the Central Bureau of Investigation, the government again played its ploy and ousted Alok Verma from being CBI Chief.

The ex-CBI Director was levelled with bribery charges and around 10 allegations which have not been proved substantial. The 3-member high level committee presided by the Indian PM Narendra Modi won the decision by 2-1 which played to Verma’s ouster.

Verma in his letter alleges the government for putting its head in the agency’s procedure and asks for proper introspection.

On government’s decision of appointing him as DG Fire Services, Verma said, “I would have already superannuated as on July 31, 2017 and I have already crossed superannuation age for DG Fire Service, Civil Defence and Home Guards.”

As per latest reports, Alok Verma has resigned from service and was due to complete his 2 year term as CBI Chief.
