Casting Couch Case: POCSO Court Hearing Against Papu Pompom On July 17


Bhubaneswar: The special Protection of Children from Sexual Offence(POCSO) court will hear the casting couch case involving Odia film industry’s popular comedian Papu Pompom alias Tatwa Prakash Satpathy on July 17.

Charges were framed against the actor on July 1 in connection with the case involving a minor girl  under sections 341, 323 and 354 of the IPC and Sections 8 and 12 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.

The girl had made allegations  against the Bollywood actor on June 25 in 2016. Papu is accused of sexually exploiting the complainant on the pretext of giving her a break in a movie. She had alleged that the actor along with his associate, film producer Pradipta Swain alias Gitu,  of molesting her repeatedly promising her to give chance for acting in Odia cinema.

The Commissionerate police had arrested Papu from an apartment in Puri town on June 30 in 2016. Later, Papu and his friend Gitu were granted bail by the Orissa High Court on August 10,  2016.

Notably, Papu Pompom had fought the last assembly election on a ticket from the ruling Biju Janata Dal though he had to bite the dust in the poll.

If proven guilty in the case by the court, he might be imprisoned for a maximum period of 5 years.
