Bhubaneswar: Mountaineer Ganesh Chandra Jena, who scaled Mt Everest on May 18, 2011 as the first from the state and participated in the 42-kilometre adventurous marathon from Everest base camp to Namche Bazaar earlier in 2013, would soon be scaling Mt Kanchenjunga.
Jena’s journey to conquer the third highest peak of the world with 8586 metre height was flagged off in the city on Saturday by noted litterateur and teacher Suprava Ray. He would begin his two month mountaineering expedition from Mt Kanchenjunga base from April 1 and the mission is expected to end on May 31, he informed.
Among others, Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) secretary-in-charge S N Nanda and state planning board member Pitabas Sahu were also present on the flag off ceremony hosted by Jena’s employers BDA.
It can be recalled that the 40-year-old mountaineer was honoured with ‘Adamaya Sahas Puruskar’ by Haryana government last year.
