Bhubaneswar: A huge number of 31,000 B. Tech seats are still lying vacant in both government-run and private engineering colleges across Odisha even after conducting a second joint entrance examination.

Seat allotment and admission processes were completed on August 13 in which only 4,192 seats were filled up taking the total number of admissions to a little above 12,000 seats both in government and private engineering colleges this year.

After first phase of admission over 35,000 seats were vacant in private engineering colleges.

The large number of vacant seats even after second phase of admission clearly indicates the lack of interest among students to pursue B.Tech due to declining job opportunities.

The AICTE,New Delhi, has already sent show cause closure notices to about 20 private engineering colleges, which have failed to enroll less than 30 percent of student capacity in the last five successive years.
