New Delhi: In a severe blow to Odisha, the Special Tribunal on Bansadhara water dispute today gave a go-ahead to government of neighbouring Andhra Pradesh allowing it to resume construction of two barrages on the controversial river near Katragada and Naredi.
The construction work on both the barrages was stalled after Odisha had raised objection with the Tribunal.
However, while the Naredi project got a clean chit for continuation of construction, the Tribunal has set certain conditions for restarting the construction work of Katragada barrage.
The Tribunal has also asked to constitute a committee which will oversee the the court order is strictly comp-lied with by the Andhra Pradesh government. The four-member panel will comprise of two officials from Central Water Commission (CWC) and two other representatives, one each from Andhra Pradesh and Odisha.
