Bilaspur, The Chhattisgarh High Court has imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on Amit Jogi, Congress MLA and son of former Chief Minister Ajit Jogi, for non-compliance of its earlier orders in connection with a petition challenging his election from Marwahi Assembly constituency of this district.
The fine was slapped yesterday on Amit for not responding to the notices of the HC which posted the matter for hearing on April 30, the petitioner’s lawyer BP Gupta said today.
Sameera Paikra,?BJP?nominee from Marwahi seat during 2013 Assembly polls, had filed a petition seeking quashing of Amit’s election citing citizenship and caste issues, besides alleged violation of model code of conduct by him. Amit had won the Assembly polls with a huge margin.
The court then served notices on Amit seeking his reply on the charges. Jogi allegedly did not respond to the notices and ignored reminders sent 4-5 times, Gupta said.
Subsequently, the information about the court notice was published in local newspapers as per the directive of the HC to draw his attention. Even after that, there was no response from Amit, the lawyer said.
The court had on February 6 decided to dispose of the case ex-parte on April 6, he added.
