Delhi: Government of India notifies amended income tax rules,making it mandatory linking of existing Aadhaar numbers with PAN.From 1st July quoting of Aadhaar number or enrolment ID to apply for PAN will be a mandatory.
As many as 2.07 crores taxpayers have already linked their Addhaar and PAN. The government had provided for PAN-Aadhaar linking to check tax evasion through use of multiple PAN cards. There are over 25 crore PAN card holders in India while Aadhaar has been issued to 111 crore people.
While Aadhaar is a biometric authenticated issued by the UIDAI, PAN is a 10-digit alphanumeric number allotted by the I-T department to individuals and entities.
