A powerful grenade explosion at the bus stand exit point under a bus near the Jammu bus stand on Thursday around 12 in the noon has claimed one life and injured atleast 32 persons in the incident. This accident is the third such blast in 10 months at the bus stand.
One critically injured person has succumbed leaving the other 32 persons injured in the grenade blast who were immediately transferred to the Government Medical College and Hospital. While there were no passengers in the ill-fated bus, the driver and the conductor have been wounded in the explosion.
A police official said the grenade was under the bus. “We are working on all the leads. We are collecting the evidence and will hunt down the perpetrators.”
Police has cordoned off the area after the high intensity explosion and an investigation is underway along with a team of forensic experts.
As per eyewitnesses, the bus was impacted with a severe explosion and window panes of three to four buses have been shattered. Blood was spotted at the accident site. People ran for cover after the explosion.
A police official said, “Obviously the intention is always to disturb communal peace and harmony… We are sure to hunt them down.”
