Lingayat Head Shivakumara Swami Breathes Last at 111; Karnataka Mourns for 3 Days


111 year old Lingayat head of Siddganga Mutt, Shivakumara Swami also referred to as “Walking God” died at Tumakuru in Karnataka on Monday.

The Siddganga Education Society confirmed the seer’s death, “The seer left for the heavenly abode leaving his mortal body at 11.44 AM.”

The widely popular seer was on ventilator and had been undergoing treatment for lung infection.

Karnatak Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy said his body will be cremated at 4:30 PM on January 22.

The Karnataka CM announced, “State government declares a three day state mourning and one day holiday for all schools, colleges and government offices on the demise of Siddganga Mutt seer Sri Shivakumara Swamiji.”

Swamiji was born on April 1, 1907 in Veerapura village of Ramanagara. For his exemplary philanthropic activities for the poor, Swamiji had been bestowed with Padma Bhushan in 2015 and Karnataka Ratna in 2007.

Karnataka CM had demanded Bharat Ratna, the highest civilian honour for Swamiji last week.
