The 3rd annual National Law University (NLU) convocation ceremony took place at the University grounds in Dwarka here on Sunday.
Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley was the chief guest at the event. Delhi High Court Chief Justice and NLU Delhi Chancellor Justice G. Rohini was also attend the ceremony.
91 students were conferred degrees at the function, which began with an opening speech by NLU Delhi Vice-Chancellor Ranbir Singh.
Arun Jaitley while speaking at the third annual Convocation of National Law University here said that there was a need for vast manpower in legal academics and the best minds from the legal profession should come ahead to join the judiciary.
Jaitley said fresh minds are required while drafting legislation in tune with the modern trends.
Addressing the meeting, “Not only you need the best to join the legal profession, from the legal profession, you will need the best to join the bench. Because if the best do not join the bench, that itself creates pressure and handicaps the system,”
In today’s competitive world, things like family, surname, genetic or roots would not issue but people would watch the quality and caliber, he said.
He also recommended to the students that there was no geographical limitation in the context of profession opportunities.
