Number Game: Cong Lambasts Government Over Housing Data in Odisha Assembly

Bhubaneswar: Making an all-out attack on the treasury bench in the assembly, Leader of Opposition(LoP) and Congress legislator Narasingha Mishra today vehemently slammed the Naveen Patnaik government for misleading the house and denigrating the constitutional system.

Narasingha accused the government of misleading the house by pointing out that figures provided by Panchayati Raj Minister Pradip Maharathy on the number of pucca houses constructed under ‘Biju Pucca Ghar Yojana’ and ‘Mo Kudia Yojana’ did not match with the figures provided by the former Panchayati Raj Minister Arun Sahu both whom were present in the LoP was in a fuming avatar.

Displaying papers Narasingha said while the then Panchayati Raj Minister Arun Sahu had told the house in 2016 that 2, 62,680 pucca houses were constructed in the state under the schemes, the present incumbent Panchayati Raj Minister Pradip Maharathy has submitted papers stating that 2, 57, 894 pucca houses have been constructed.”Who is correct?” he asked.

“Both the replies are contradictory to each other. The current Minister replied that he cannot tell anything about the earlier statement but whatever he has stated in his reply is correct. We have repeatedly said in this house that there is a strange government here in Odisha which comes up with facts which are contradictory to each other. It misleads the house by presenting wrong facts. But the house has the right to know which is correct? Who has misled the House?” stated Mishra during Question Hour.

The house witnessed noisy scenes over the issue with Congress members demanding a ruling from the Speaker on the matter.
