Bhubaneswar: Peeved at the tardy progress in the investigation into the mysterious death of techie student Ashutosh Mohanty alias Rishi which has hit a dark tunnel and having lost her faith in the Twin City Police, his mother today urged Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to order a CBI probe into the sensational case.

Rishi’s mother Preetirani Mohantytoday wrote a letter to Naveen Patnaik requesting him to direct a CBI inquiry into the matter.

On July 3, 2017 Orissa High Court had directed the Twin City Commissionerate police to furnish a case diary of the case after one of Rishi’s friends, Anurag Mohapatra, had moved the High Court.

As reported earlier, Rishi had spent the previous night before the ill-fated day with his roommates who were having a party at the mess on May 5, 2016. His friends informed Khandagiri police suspecting something foul when Rishi did not wake up from his slumber late into the morning and rushed him to Capital Hospital, where he was declared dead.

The preliminary investigation said that Rishi died due to excessive consumption of alcohol and drugs.

However, the case took a critical turn after a controversial sex video went viral featuring Bhubaneswar Mayor Ananta Narayan Jena and a woman. The opposition members and others claimed that the video tape had links with the death of Rishi.
