Bhubaneswar: In yet another measure for development of textile sectors, handlooms and handicrafts across Odisha, the State Government has decided to seek financial support from the World Bank for a proposed project.
A high level meeting between World Bank officials and senior shenanigans of the State Government in this connection was held at the state secretariat here today.
Chief Secretary A P Padhi while presiding over the meeting stressed upon proper implementation to see that the World Bank assistance helps in enhancement of the real income of the weavers and the artisans of the state.
Initially, Rs 460 crore would be invested in this project. In principle decision was taken in the meeting to implement the project by utilizing fund from the State Government and loan from the World Bank.
It was revealed during the meeting that there are 52 types of handicrafts and weaving art forms are available in Odisha, and as many as four lakh people are engaged in this profession directly or indirectly.
