A special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court headed by special judge JK Pandya ruled its decision in favour of former IPS officers D G Vanzara and N K Amin dropping charges of murder, conspiracy and other criminal sections in the Ishrat Jahan encounter case on Thursday.
The ex-IPS officers who have served 8 years of jail sentence were finally released due to the Gujarat government not agreeing to sanction their prosecution in the case.
On March 26, both the officers had filed for charges to be dropped against them and both the former IPS officers had stated there was no abduction and the encounter was a part of official duty.
Ishrat Jahan along with three others were killed on June 15, 2004 by then Ahmedabad Crime Branch officer D G Vanzara on the outskirts of Ahmedabad.
However, the CBI lawyer RC Kodekar said, to approach a higher court after getting a copy of the CBI court’s order.
