On a day when PM Narendra Modi raked up the Congress culture in his stinging post, Congress President Rahul Gandhi played it back by addressing a Congress Working Committee (CWC) at the Sardar Patel Memorial ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections at the PM’s land at Ahmedabad in Gujarat.
Gandhi scythe the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for following the ideals of “fascism, hatred, anger and divisiveness”
The Gandhi scion opined, “No sacrifice is too great in this endeavour; no effort too little; this battle will be won.”
Accompanying the Congress President were his mother and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi former PM Manmohan Singh and his sister and newly inducted Congress General-Secretary in-charge of eastern UP, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.
The UPA Chairperson targeted PM Modi of gathering sympathy among the people while the country is a victim of his policies. She relayed how the Congress is heading with a new vision.
Former PM Manmohan Singh spelt out Congress party’s achievements during its rule in 2004-2014.
The Grand old party took on Modi-led BJP on surfeit of issues and policies: demonitisation, roll out of GST (Goods and Services Tax), Rafale deal, agriculture distress and unemployment.
Congress leader Anand Sharma, too, present in the CWC meeting addressed, “The Congress believes that the values enshrined in the Constitution and the rights given to people are under constant onslaught under the present government.”
He added, “The idea of India, envisaged by Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru… is being challenged in a way to replace the values that are against the principles espoused by the makers of the Constitution.”
Rahul Gandhi along with all the Congress members paid respect while observing silence on the Pulwama martyrs.
Congress leader Anand Sharma scorned the BJP on taking due advantage of the IAF airstrike. Sharma said, “Entire blame goes to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP.”
“The Prime Minister is playing with the emotions of the people only to take mileage in the elections. We condemn it.”
Earlier in the day, the Congress leaders in attendance paid their respects at the Gandhi Ashram in Sabarmati and held a prayer meeting.
HARDIK PATEL JOINS CONGRESS
Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti leader Hardik Patel, too, was present in the CWC meeting in Ahmedabad and officially joined the Congress party in presence of Rahul Gandhi and other Congress leaders on Tuesday.
Patel, a former BJP worker said, “I would also like to state that if there is no legal hindrance and the party decides to field me in electoral politics, I would abide by the party’s decision and contest the elections.”
Later, Priyanka Gandhi addressed a rally in Gandhinagar in the afternoon. She turned the pitch on to a conscientious voting, “You have to think what this election means, what is your role? You are deciding your future. What is important here is how are we going to progress? Who will work for the farmers, who will work for the safety of the women?”
The Congress General Secretary added, “This country is built on the foundations of love, harmony and brotherhood. Today whatever is happening in the country is very sad.”
Priyanka Gandhi, too, questioned the ruling government on the women’s safety standards.
