IAF fighter aircraft crashes in KashmirAn Indian Air Force (IAF) fighter aircraft crashed Monday morning in Soibug area of Central-Kashmir’s Budgam district.

A MiG-21 Bison aircraft of the IAF crashed in the fields in Budgam district of Kashmir, with the pilot managing to eject safely. The aircraft had taken off from Srinagar airfield and was on a “routine” training sortie.

A senior defense ministry official said that the fighter aircraft MIG-21 of 51 Squadron of air force crashed in the paddy fields at Soibug, Budgam. The aircraft got damaged in the incident. However, the pilot and co-pilot had a miraculous escape, the official said.

The pilot managed to eject from the plane “just in time” and he was retrieved from the crash scene by an army helicopter. A court of inquiry has been ordered to ascertain the cause of the crash, the spokesman added.
