After Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) leader Kamal Hassan was targeted with chappal at an election rally at Tirupparankundram on the evening of May 15 over his comments on Mahatma Gandhi’s killer Nathuram Godse being the first Hindu extremist, the actor-turned-politician on Friday further stirred up the issue saying, “All religions have extremists.”
Speaking to an array of media persons, Hassan following the flung chappal incident said, “Every religion has its own terrorist. We cannot claim that we are sanctimonious. History shows that all religions have their extremists.”
However, the MNM leader seemed not disturbed by the incident and rather said, “I feel the quality of polity is going down. I don’t feel threatened.”
Kamal Hassan has been since targeted by the BJP and Hindu nationalists after he sparked controversy on the evening of May 12 when he said on Nathuram Godse being the first Hindu free extremist while campaigning for S Mohanraj for the Aravakkurichi assembly elections.
