Kathua Rape Case: 6 Guilty, 1 Freed


A special court in Pathankot has verdicted six of the seven persons accused in the Kathua gang rape case in Jammu and Kashmir on Monday. The special court has freed one person in this case.

Reports have divulged from the police on the rape and murder of an 8-year old minor in the village temple, belonged to the nomadic Bakarwal community was kidnapped on January 10, 2018 who was sedated and raped repeatedly. Later, she was strangled and killed with a stone on January 14, 2018.

Her body was recovered from the forest area near Kathua on January 17.

A retired revenue officer is the prime conspirator in the case as he wanted to banish the Bakarwal community from his native Rasana village.

Along with the former revenue officer, two others have been convicted with rape and murder. Two policemen among the rest three accused have been convicted for destroying evidence in this matter.

The six persons found guilty will be pronounced with their quantum of punishments later in the day.
