Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh filed his nomination papers for the Rajya Sabha (RS) seat from Rajasthan on Tuesday after his term for the Upper House ended on June 14 this year.
Singh’s nomination for the Rajya Sabha seat comes in the wake of the RS seat vacated following the death of Rajasthan Rajya Sabha MP Madan Lal Saini.
In the 200-seat strength Rajya Sabha assembly, Congress has 100 MLAs with its alliance Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) having 1 seat. The Congress ruled state has the support of 12 out of 13 independent seats.
The former PM whose Rajya Sabha’s near 3-decade tenure ended on June 14 used to represent from Assam.
