Mayawati Severs Ties with SP; To Contest Bypolls on Own

Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) leader Mayawati announced on breaking her alliance with the Samajwadi Party (SP) after its poor performance in the Lok Sabha elections on Tuesday.

The SP-BSP alliance bagged only 15 seats out of 80 in the 2019 polls.

Mayawati said, “In the results of Lok Sabha elections in UP, base vote of SP, the Yadav’s community, didn’t support the party. Even strong contenders of SP were defeated.”

Meanwhile, she pointed on the break up with SP as not a permanent one. Mayawati said, “If we feel in future that the SP chief succeeds in his political work, we will again work together. But if he doesn’t succeed, it will be good for us to work separately. So we have decided to fight the bypolls alone.”

The BSP supremo said on the respect she received from the SP chief and his wife. She added, “Our relation isn’t only for politics, it will continue forever.”
