Missing AN-32 Remains Found in Arunachal Pradesh


Remains of Russian origin tactical transport aircraft Antonov AN-32 which had went missing since June 3 after its take-off from Jorhat in Assam was located in Arunachal Pradesh on Tuesday.

The Indian Air Force (IAF) said in its tweet, “The wreckage of the missing #An 32 was spotted today 16 Kms North of Lipo, North East of Tato at an approximate elevation of 12000 ft by the IAF Mi-17 Helicopter undertaking search in the expanded search zone.”

5 passengers and 8 crew members carrying AN-32 which was inbound to Mechuka Advance Landing Ground airstrip in the eastern Himalayas of Arunachal Pradesh’s West Siang district had lost its contact minutes after its take-off on June 3.

The transport aircraft which didn’t land led the IAF to a massive search operation deploying helicopters, Sukhois, C-130J aircrafts and unmanned aerial vehicles.

Ground search teams, police etc. were also deployed as search teams.

However, the search for survivors is still underway.
