PM Modi Takes Pride; Says Word “Abhinandan” Meaning Will Now Change

Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Construction Technology India 2019 on Saturday said in reference to Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman of the Indian Air Force (IAF) that, the meaning of “Abhinandan” will transform now.

Earlier on March 1, Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman walked across the Attari-Wagah border around 9.15 PM after being held by the Pakistan Army for 3 days.

The IAF Wing Commander was a member of the Mig-21 Bison fighter aircraft team that successfully force retreated Pakistan fighter jets for air violation in Nowshera sector in India on February 27. In the aerial combat, one Pakistan F-16 fighter jet was shot which fell in Pakistan.

Varthaman’s jet also received hit but he managed to escape unhurt with the help of parachute. However, he landed in the enemy’s territory in the PoK (Pakistan occupied Kashmir) around 7kms from the Indian border.

The Pakistan army on getting information rescued him from their locals. On February 28, Pakistan PM Imran Khan had announced of releasing Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman as a sign of “peace gesture”.

PM Modi at today’s event said, “The world takes note of what India does. This country has the power to change the meaning of words in a dictionary. Abhinandan used to mean “congratulation” in English. This will change now”

After the delayed release of the IAF Wing Commander last night across the Attari border, he was received by the defence officials of India and was greeted by loud cheers among the public that had gathered for long hours to catch Varthaman’s glimpse.

Previously, PM Modi had tweeted after Abhinandan Varthaman’s release, “Welcome Home Wing Commander Abhinandan! The nation is proud of your exemplary courage. Our armed forces are an inspiration for 130 crore Indians. Vande Mataram!”
