SC Rules Fate of Rebel MLAs in the Hands of Karnataka Speaker


The Supreme Court passed an interim order giving authority to the Karnataka Speaker K R Ramesh Kumar to decide on the acceptance of the resignation of the 16 rebel MLAs of the JD(S)-Congress coalition H D Kumaraswamy’s government on Wednesday.

The SC bench headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) Ranjan Gogoi along with Justice Deepak Gupta and Justice Aniruddha Bose also ordered a choice for the rebel MLAs whether to participate or not in the floor test in the Karnataka assembly on July 18.

The SC bench also said, the Karnataka Speaker is not under any obligation to make a decision on the rebel Karnataka MLAs.

The Supreme Court is hearing a petition moved by the 13 Congress and 3 JD(S) MLAs against the Karnataka Speaker for not accepting their resignation.
