Supreme Court Abstains to Further Nageswar Rao’s Interim CBI Chief Appointment Hearing

The Supreme Court bench of Justice Arun Mishra and Justice Vineet Saran on Tuesday refused to proceed any further in the former interim CBI Director Nageswar Rao appointment case.

The SC two-bench justice said the appointment of new Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Director makes Rao’s case futile.

Earlier, three Supreme Court Justices – CJI Ranjan Gogoi, Justice A K Sikri and Justice N V Ramana have recused themselves from former CBI Nageswar Rao’s hearing.

NGO Common Cause had moved a petition to the apex court regarding Rao’s inappropriate appointment by the SC on January 10 and not by the high powered level committee.

M Nageswar Rao was made the interim CBI Director after the removal of former CBI Director Alok Verma who was reinstated on January 8 as CBI Director after being removed from the position facing bribery charges on the night of October 23, 2018.
