Too Much Drama around Surgical Strike: Former Army General DS Hooda Rues

Speaking at a Military Literature Festival conducted by the Punjab Government, the retired army Gen. DS Hooda conveyed on “Role of cross border operations and surgical strikes”.

The successful operation on September 29, 2016 was headed by Hooda himself. But the excess marketing of the event was unnecessary, as Hooda mentioned himself at Lake Club in Chandigarh.

Hooda expressed, “The military leadership must guard against becoming a tool in the hands of politicians. We can’t take military action to suit someone politically”.

The military event was presided by a panel of former army officers. A former Defence analyst of the army, Colonel Ajay Shukla too mentioned, the Modi government’s too much propagation of the strike promulgated them to lodge huge win on the Uttar Pradesh elections.

The former army dignitaries present asserted that the surgical strike operation was like any other cross border operation.

Hooda added, “Terrorists had been targeting military installations since the end of 2013. Walking with the army chief through 3 inches of ash at Uri, we were clear that we had to go across”. We received a thumbs-up from the PM and the National Security Advisor for the September 29 operation.

Hooda complained about the operation details leak to media and the superfluous publicity stemming from it.

Retired Lieutenant General NS Brar alerted, “Military action initiated to win an election is very dangerous”.
