A bus plying from Lucknow to Delhi on the 165-kilometre Yamuna Expressway met with an accident after it lost control and fell into a canal near Etmadpur in Agra district in Uttar Pradesh at 4.30 AM on Monday.
29 passengers travelling in the double-decker bus carrying around 50 passengers have been killed in this incident.
Nearly 17-18 people have suffered injuries in the 15-feet canal bus drop. Rescue operations faced obstacles due to flowing water. All the injured have been shifted to the nearby hospitals.
The ill-fated bus has been mangled in the incident and was pulled out of the large drain with the help of JCBs.
The district magistrate, district administration and the police are taking stock of the situation and a probe is underway.
The Uttar Pradesh Roadways have announced 5 lakh rupees ex-gratia each to families of the deceased.
The UP CM Yogi Adityanath, Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended their support and grief to the bereaved families.
