Nabarangpur: An anganwadi worker has lodged a police complaint against a couple for allegedly branding their six-month-old baby boy with a hot bangle at Khutiguda village under Papadahandi block in Nabarangpur district.

The infant is undergoing treatment at the Nabarangpur District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) with multiple severe injuries on his abdomen, thighs and feet.

Reports said that the infant born to Nakul Bhatra and his wife Janaki had been suffering from breathing problems for the last one week. Instead of taking the child to hospital, the couple tried traditional methods to cure him though no improvement was noticed in the baby boy’s condition. When condition of the child deteriorated, they branded him with a hot iron bangle on his stomach on Jne 18.

Later, the parents took him to community health centre at Dabugaon in a critical condition from where he was referred to the DHH for better treatment.

He is reportedly suffering from pneumonia and septicemia and his condition is stated to be serious.

Unhappy over the inhuman practice, an anganwadi worker of the same village has lodged a police complaint against the parents of the child for this barbaric and blind-faith driven practice.
