Berhampur Mayor K Madhavi Loses Job Over False Marital Status Affidavit


Berhampur: The first lady Mayor of Berhampur r K Madhavi lost post after Ganjam District and Sessions Court today declare her election null and void on allegations of submitting false affidavit on her marital status. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 2000 on her.

The court’s judgment came following a case filed by former Berhampur Mayor Siba Sankar Das against K Madhavi.

Siba Sankar Das had filled the case regarding her marital status. He had alleged that K Madhavi married for the second time without obtaining divorce from her first husband.

Siba sankar Das had also moved the Orissa High Court seeking early disposal of the case following which the HC had directed the lower court to give its verdict within 45 days.

Notably, K Madhavi was the first woman mayor of the 40-member civic body. She was elected as the Corporator from Ward No 16 and was in the Myor’s post since June 2016.
