BJD MP Tathagata Satpathy Announces Retirement from Politics; Eyes on Journalism

Biju Janata Dal (BJD) Lok Sabha MP Tathagata Satpathy laid down curtains on his political career on Tuesday and announced quitting politics over journalism.

Satpathy said, “None can oust me from the BJD party. I have only one pressure and that’s from my son.”

He added, “My son said to me, not to contest in 2019 elections, rather focus on journalism and stay at home. Apparently, I have been saying this to everyone for the last 3 months. I am happy with my decision and not at all sad.”

The four-time Lok Sabha MP said, “I entered politics because of Biju babu and I am stepping down on this optimistic day of his birth anniversary.”

On his journalism venture, Satpathy said, “Odisha lacks in free and courageous journalism. Everyone has bowed their heads to someone. I will brave towards free journalism.”

Earlier on March 4, on his visit to Angul district, Satpathy at an event had spilled beans of stepping down from politics.
