Bhubaneswar: A team of BJP delegates, headed by state unit’s Vice-President Samir Mohanty today submitted a memorandum to Governor S C Jamir seeking his intervention in the matter of alleged discrepancies in the poll expenses of Chief Minister and ruling Biju Janata Dal(BJD) supremo Naveen Patnaik and his party.
On July 28, the BJP had urged the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to conduct a probe into ‘dubious poll funding’ charges against Naveen Patnaik.
Before that, a delegation of BJP including party national spokesperson Sambit Patra had met the Election Commission of India in New Delhi on July 27 demanding disqualification of Naveen from the assembly for three years as a legislator for allegedly filing false poll affidavit in connection with poll expenses incurred by himself and the party during the simultaneous assembly and general elections in 2014.
The party has also moved the Income Tax Commissioner in Bhubaneswar seeking a thorough investigation by the department into the alleged irregularities.
“While nothing will come out of any kind investigation since no irregularities have been conducted, it is only a Photo-Op season for the BJP,” chided a Cabinet colleague of Naveen on condition of anonymity.
