BJD’s Week-Long Statewide Protest Against Paddy MSP Hike


Bhubaneswar(Samaya Bureau): The ruling  Biju Janata Dal ( BJD) today announced to hold week-long statewide demonstrations to oppose the Union government’s recent decision to hike the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for paddy by just Rs 80 per quintal for 2017-18.

“The BJD will stage demonstration in all the 314 blocks in the state from July 10 to July 18 against Modi government’s recent decision to increase the MSP for paddy by  a meager amount of Rs 80 per quintal,” announced senior BJD leader Debi Prasad Mishra at a press conference here.

Dubbing the Central government as anti-farmer, Mishra  said that the Modi government had failed to fulfill its promises to farmers and its decision to increase MSP for paddy merely by Rs 80 is a mockery of the farmers’ community and their sufferings.

BJD farmers’ wing will stage demonstration for two hours every day at all the 314 blocks from July 17.Mishra informed concluded.
