Class VI Koraput Navodaya Vidyalaya Student Injured In Ragging


Koraput: A Class six student of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya(JNV) in Koraput has sustained injuries in ragging by his seniors in the school premises here on March 21.

The victim identified as Subhasish Rout (11) has leveled allegations against his seniors of threatening and torturing him.

As per the complaint filed by the father of Subhasish Rout at the Koraput Town police station, a group of four Class eight students of the school dragged him out of his room in the hostel on March 20 night and beat him brutally after taking him to the upper floor. The minor victim sustained critical injury in the attack.

The incident came to the fore after Subhasish Rout informed about the incident to his family members on the next day on March 21and later they met the Principal of the school as well as the Hostel Superintendent.

“We met the principal as well as the hostel superintendent and discussed about the incident. However, they refused to intervene in the matter after which we lodged complaint with the police,” rued the father of Subhashish Rout.

“We have received a complaint against four Class VIII students of JNV of brutally torturing a Class VI student. An investigation is underway and appropriate action would be taken against the guilty,” said Khireswar Sahoo, IIC of the Koraput Town Police Station.

Meanwhile, the injured student has been admitted to the SLN Medical College and Hospital for treatment and his condition is stated to be stable.
