Baripada: In an instance that has caused further damage to the law enforcing police establishment in the state, the Mayubhanj district police was compelled to arrest the Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) of Tiring Police Station Chandra Mohan Singh in a ‘hit and run’ case today.
An undone district police arrested the Inspector Chandra Mohan Singh following an order by the Mayurbhanj SP Aniruddh Singh on the basis of a case lodged against the IIC under Section 279, 337, 338 of IPC at the Bangiriposhi Police Station.
As per the complaint, the Tiring IIC dashed his Maruti Suzuki Ertiga (Registration No. OD 11 H 7197) against two vehicles–one each under Tiring Police Station and Bangiriposhi Police Station areas on the night of November 28 while travelling from Tiring to Baripada in a drunken state.
Mashrukanti Behera, a bike rider from Rangayam village under Kuliana police limits sustained serious injuries being hit by the Inspector’s vehicle and was rushed to Pandit Raghunath Murmu Medical College and Hospital in Baripada and then shifted to SCB Medical in Cuttack as his condition deteriorated.
A visibly upset Baripada Sadar SDPO Abhimanyu Nayak admitted reluctantly that the IIC caused the accident under the influence of alcohol. However, he clarified that the truth would be revealed after a probe.
