Jaundice toll rises up to 89 in Cuttack

Cuttack: Jaundice outbreak toll on Wednesday has risen up to 89 in Cuttack after Samabalpur and Kendrapara till now.It has emerged as a major horror for the district administration with the rapid increase in the headcount of affected persons.

The number of affected persons, which was 68 till on Tuesday and shot up to 89 on Wednesday after the city registered 21 more fresh cases affected with the water-borne disease.

Meanwhile, the district administration and Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) has deployed health workers to distribute halogen tablets and drinking water in the affected areas and launched emergency measures to check the spread of the disease.

According to sources, maximum jaundice cases are seen in Jobra, Nayak Sahi, Thoria Sahi, Badhei Sahi, Machua Bazaar , Bania Sahi and Gamhandia because of the poor networks of PWD pipes has supplied drinking water are reaching their homes through these drains, which is the main cause for jaundice.
