Major Fire Breaks Out At NALCO’s CPP


Angul: A major fire broke out at the Captive Power Plant (CPP) of public sector National National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO) today causing major damage and loss.

Reportedly, the fire was first spotted at the No.8 unit of the CPP at about 2 PM today.

The fire which broke out initially in the barrel outside the unit started spreading to the generator transformer and other parts causing heavy damage.

About 10 fire tender units were pressed into service to douse the fire which tamed the fire within two hours.

The cause of the fire and the exact cost of damage were yet to be ascertained. The generator transformer which has been badly damaged alone costs at Rs 15 crore. The No.8 unit of the CPP would be functional after the damaged generator transformer is replaced.
