Nandankanan’s Pride White Tigress ‘Kusum’ No More


Bhubaneswar: A pall of gloom descended on Nandankanan Zoological Park today morning with the sad news of the demise of white tigress Kusum. The pride of Nandankanan, Kusum, died of old age complications.

The docile tigress was the cynosure of all eyes for the last 18 years till she breathed her last.

Kusum’s condition had deteriorated for the last 11 days and she was seen lying like a vegetable at the feeding chamber inside the white tiger safari.

Notably, Kusum was born on December 28, 1999 as an offspring of tiger Ram and tigress Shreya.

Kusum gave birth to as many as six siblings during her lifetime.

With the death of Kusum, the number of white tigers in the zoo has declined to eight.
