Odisha Chief Secretary Seeks Report On Drought Situation


Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi today directed officials to take immediate and expeditious steps to tackle the situation arising due to dry spells in several districts of the steps.

The Chief Secretary’s directive came during a review of the report of Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Bishnupada Sethi on possible drought situation in several areas in the state.

Notably, the SRC Bishnupada Sethi along with a team of officials visited several areas in Balangir, Bargarh, Nuapada districts to assess the situation arising due to scanty rainfall.

Reliable sources said that the team jeaded by the SRC found lack of adequate humidity in about 98 blocks in different districts.

In the wake of the imminent threat of drought, the Chief Secretary directed the district collectors to submit detailed report about the ground realities latest by October 22.

The Chief Secretary directed the officials of the Odisha Lift Irrigation Corporation (OLIC) to immediately activate the irrigation points and bore wells in worst affected places in Nuapada, Bolangir and Bargarh districts and repair, if necessary, the existing facilities to counter the challenge posed by adverse weather.

The Chief Secretary also directed the officials of Panchayati Raj, Drinking Water Supply, Agriculture and Fisheries & Animal Resources Departments and the Special Relief Commissioner to immediately start Labour oriented projects in affected blocks and arrange drinking water and adequate fodder.
