Cuttack: After swine now it is the turn of dengue. The vector-borne disease claimed another life at the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack today taking the total death toll in Odisha in the current season to two.
The deceased has been identified as Harihar Mallick from Basudevpur area in Bhadrak district who died today morning while was undergoing treatment at the Central ICU of the hospital. Harihar was admitted to the hospital on August 8.
The first dengue victim case was reported on August 9 when 35-year-old daily wager Som Prakash Mishra of Bihar died while undergoing treatment at the same hospital.
Meanwhile, a special dengue ward has been set up at the SCB and two beds are available at the central ICU for dengue patients. Besides, dengue test is being conducted at the hospital free of cost.
Reports said that the number of dengue patients is on the rise the state while most of the cases have been referred from Bhadrak and Balasore districts.
The vector-borne disease is spread by Aides mosquito which bites mostly in daytime and its colour strangely is white.
