One More Farmer Kills Self Due to Loan Burden, This Time In Nuapada


Nuapada: In yet another case of continuous farmer suicide in the state, one more farmer named Jharpoda Sabar of Kotamal village under Khariar block in Nuapada district took the extreme step to end his life by consuming pesticide.

As per reports, the hapless farmer had cultivated paddy and cotton crops in about five acres of land taking a loan of Rs 50,000 from a Self-Help Group(SHG).

Jharpoda Sabar was going through utter mental pressure and depression due to loan repayment burden after crop damage and reportedly consumed pesticide in his field today.

The farmer was rushed to Khariar Mission Hospital by his family members in an extremely critical condition where he breathed his last while undergoing treatment at the hospital.

Following the death of the farmer, local BJP workers staged a dharna in front of Khariar police station and blocked Khariar-Bhawanipatna road for some time demanding Rs 10 lakh compensation to the next of kin of the deceased farmer.
