Pipili Police Arrests BJD MLA Pradeep Maharathy


Biju Janata Dal (BJD) Pipili MLA Pradeep Maharathy gets arrested on Monday after beating up the magistrate of the poll flying squad in Pipili area in Puri district during the late night hours of April 21.

Maharathy was first interrogated in the Pipili town police limits and was then taken in custody.

The Superintendent of Police (SP) of Puri said, “The police has lodged serious IPC sections on Maharathy. The following IPC sections are – 307, 353, 341, 332, 147, 148, 149 – 171 (B), 186 and 123.”

Late on April 21, the Magistrate of the poll flying squad,Rabinarayan Patra along with State Surveillance Team (SST) raided Maharathy’s Hunkeipur farm house under Pipili area after getting a tip-off on money and alcohol being distributed among the party workers.

Pradeep Maharathy responded by hurling abuses on the magistrate and the party workers broke the camera of the cameraman and the workers along with Maharathy beat up the magistrate and his surveillance team, as said by Patra.

The ASI Binay Kumar Das and the driver who came along with the magistrate also suffered Maharathy’s assault and received injuries.

The Magistrate’s team fled the spot in one vehicle leaving the other vehicle at Maharathy’s farmhouse.

Patra is being treated at Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar.

Pradeep Maharathy is the BJD candidate for Pipili assembly constituency.
