The state of Odisha received due honour after three residents from the state were bestowed with Padma Shri awards on Saturday.
On the day of Padma award honours at the Rashtrapati Bhawan, President Ram Nath Kovind conferred the Padma Shri to Kamala Pujari, Daitari Naik and Devarapalli Prakash Rao.
Kamala Pujari’s received the award for his contribution to the farmer’s agricultural practices whereas Daitari Naik got recognition for his social activism and D.Prakash Rao for his free education initiative to slum dwellers, something that received appreciation from PM Modi as well.
Pujari’s noteworthy contribution in Koraput to the agricultural practices has earned her laurels from national and international communities. The state government has also honoured her.
While, Prakash Rao being a tea seller from Cuttack district has taken the burden of imparting education to slum dwellers for quite a long time.
On the other hand, Daitari Naik has made a near impossible task of providing water to cultivate lands by cutting down mountains in the path. Finally, Naik’s sterling effort has got him the fourth highest civilian award of the country.
Also, former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir, Indian female basketball player Prashanti Singh and Indian footballer Sunil Chhetri, too, received the Padma Shri.
