Bargarh: Former district unit president of the BJP Narayan Sahu officially joined the state ruling BJD at a special function here today ahead of the Bijepur by-poll causing heavy damage to the saffron party.
Narayan Sahu joined the ruling BJD along with hundreds of his supporters in the presence of several BJD senior leaders including Rajya Sabha MP Prasanna Acharya, state ministers Sushant Singh and Niranjan Pujari and Snehangini Chhuria.
Expressing his disgruntlement over party affairs in the Bargarh BJP district unit, Narayan Sahu had severed his ties with the saffron party on November 21 and met ruling BJD supremo and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik desiring to join BJD. He had earlier on October 3 had offered to quit the party only a day after former Bijepur MLA and BJD leader Ashok Panigrahi joined BJP. However, senior BJP leaders managed to convince him to withdraw his resignation.
Ashok Panigrahi had quit BJD after the ruling party named late Congress MLA Subal Sahu’s widow Rita Sahu as the official candidate for the upcoming Bijepur by-poll.
On the other hand, BJD’s Bijepur block president Radheshyam Mohapatra resigned from the post on December 3 and is expected to soon join the BJP.
