A 3 year old Royal Bengal tiger, Mahavir, also known as MB2 , died in a trap set by poachers. Mahavir was part of the first tiger translocation project from Kanha Tiger Reserve in Madhya Pradesh to Satkosia Tiger Reserve in Athagarh , Odisha.
On Wednesday afternoon, the tiger was found with marks on his neck & collar by the officials of the Satkosia reserve.
This is suspected that the tiger may have fallen into the poachers’ trap. It is presumed that the tiger must have died of septicemia.
The DFO of Satkosia Wildlife, Ramasamy P has been assigned as the investigating officer in this matter.
“For now the tiger transloacation project has been put on hold”, said Anup Nayak, ADG, National Tiger Conservation Authority.
