Bhubaneswar: 1984 batch IPS officer R P Singh who was on deputation to the Centre and officiating as the Special DG of the Border Security Force(Eastern Zone) has returned to his parent cadre state of Odisha.
Likewise, 2001 batch IAS officer D V Swamy after completion of his inter-cadre deputation has returned to his parent cadre.
With R P Singh returning to Odisha speculations have again gained ground about change of guard at the top-most position in the state police.
The present DG of Odisha police, K B Singh, belongs to the 1985 batch while R P Singh is one year senior to him who belongs to the 1984 batch.
If whispers in the state power corridor are to be believed, K B Singh is said to be extremely close to Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh. Rajnath in the past too had reportedly expressed his willingness to give K B Singh a plumb posting in his ministry and there were intense speculations about change of DG in Odisha.
Odisha has a sanctioned strength of two cadre and two ex-cadre DG posts. With R P Singh returning to the state, the number of DGs will go up to five, three cadre- R P Singh, K B Singh and Binoy Behera- and two ex-cadre- Bijoy Sharma and Dr R P Sharma. Both the Sharmas belobng to the 1986 batch.
In that context one has to go to the Centre. Though Dr R P Sharma not much ago had given his written willingness to go to the Centre and both the Centre and the state had cleared his name, the state government changed its mind later and he is continuing as the Special DG of the State Anti-Corruption Wing.
