Supreme Court Grants Bail To Surendranath Mishra Alias Sura Baba In Land Fraud Case


Bhubaneswar: The Supreme Court today granted bail to the controversial self-styled Godman Surendranath Mishra alias Sura Baba in a land fraud case lodged against him by a disciple from Chatrapur area in Ganjam district whom the Baba had allegedly duped said his lawyer Ashok Panigrahy.

Notably, the Orissa High Court had earlier rejected his bail plea twice in the case, the last time being on August 3, following which Surendranath Mishra had moved the Supreme Court for bail.

A person reportedly had lodged a complaint against Sura Baba and his son at the Chhatrapur police station on charges of land grabbing.

Surendra was arrested on August 31, 2015 from Trahi Achyuta ashram, set up o a sprawling 14-acre property at Jhinti Sasan in Khurda district for allegedly indulging in various illegal activities including encroachment of government lands and exploiting women followers sexually in the ashram.
