Undertrial Prisoner Escapes From Kendrapara Sub-Jail

Kendrapara: An undertrial prisoner escaped from Kendrapara Sub-Jail here by scaling the boundary wall on March 17.

The undertrial prisoner identified as Rangadhar Biswal of Mirjapur village under Nikirai police station limits had been lodged at the sub-jail for the last four years for his alleged involvement in a murder case of 2014. His trial was underway at the Kendrapara District and Sessions Judge Court.

The police and the jail authorities suspected that Rangadhar Biswal reached near the boundary wall very late in the night taking advantage of the absence of the guards and vanished into thin air in the dark after jumping off the wall.

Police records revealed that Rangadhar Biswal had hacked a resident of his own village named Srikant Swain on February 28, 2014 over some past enmity. On the day of the incident, Srikant Swain passed lewd remarks to Rangadhar Biswal over his past relationship after which the latter hacked him to death with a bill-hook.
