Rairangpur in Mayurbhanj: Tension mounted up in the campus of Rairangpur College today as students of the college were shocked to witness the beheaded statute of Swami Vivekananda which was installed by the students’ union in the current year.
The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad(ABVP) led students’ union leaders have given a memorandum in this regard to the Mayurbhanj district collector demanding stringent action against the miscreants involved in the incident.
According to reports, the ABVP led union’s decision to install the statute of Vivekananda was opposed by another faction of students affiliated to another political party who instead wanted the union to install either Raghunath Murmu’s or Biju Pattnaik’s statue.
However, the ABVP led union took the unilateral decision to install Vivekananda’s statute.
When the college reopened today after Sunday, they were shocked to see the statue without its head. Incidentally, the night watchman of the college was on leave.
